Do you have difficulty safely getting into your shower or off the toilet? Does your family insist they are present “just in case?” Do you ever look at your bed after a long exhausting day and dread the energy that it takes to simply get into that haven of rest? Do you spend more time trying to reach for supplies and ingredients to prepare dinner than you do actually enjoying it? How many times have you thought, "I just wish I could do this myself without asking for help again”?
Multiple Sclerosis creates considerable accessibility challenges within the home for not only the person living with MS, but the whole family. Barriers, such as the height of furniture or widths of doorways, can make living and moving within your home challenging. The arrangement and approach to your home can be improved to facilitate accessibility, safety, and independence of mobility. In this upcoming webinar, we will navigate a home, room-by-room, to identify some of the common barriers to preparing meals, using the bathroom, moving around your bedroom, navigating stairs safely, driving, and other activities of daily living. Then, together, we will problem solve and explore various techniques, tools, and exercises that can help make your home more safe and comfortable.
We invite you to join an occupational therapist and a physical therapist to have an interactive, solution-focused approach to solving the accessibility challenges within your home. The “keys” to unlocking accessibility do not need to be changed, but rather discovered!
